Highway Vehicle Accidents in Virginia

Authorities with the Virginia Department of Transportation say that one auto accident takes place every five minutes statewide, with almost 150 victims injured in these wrecks daily. Moreover, nearly 20% of crashes that take place in the Commonwealth of Virginia occur on major freeways and interstates.
Furthermore, data released by Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles officials show that close to 970 deaths happened on Virginia’s roadways in 2021 alone, marking a 15% rise compared to the previous year. These grim numbers prove that major vehicle wrecks happen far too frequently in the Commonwealth.
Although a number of different causes are responsible for motor vehicle crashes, the overwhelming majority of them are preventable. From distractions like texting, talking on the phone, and reaching for the radio to speeding and reckless driving, at-fault drivers largely commit careless errors that translate to devastating consequences. In fact, distracted driving is said to contribute to nearly 80% of all traffic accidents and 65% of near-collisions, per a study conducted by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
Regrettably, the victims of these incidents pay a huge price for the negligent actions of other drivers. But if you’ve suffered injuries in an accident that’s occurred through no fault of your own, you could have legal options moving forward.
When you’ve been affected by the reckless behavior of another person, you and your family should reach out to an auto accident attorney in Norfolk as soon as you can.
