Norfolk, VA (May 18, 2022) – On Wednesday evening, May 18, authorities in the Hampton Roads area, including those from Norfolk Fire & Rescue and police from the Norfolk Police Department, responded to an accident involving a myriad of drivers.
According to emergency workers who were on the scene, the collision took place at around 10:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. In spite of the fact that the specifics of what caused the collision are unclear, the NPD has said that all lanes were backed up for a lengthy period of time.
At least one victim was taken by emergency medical services to a local medical facility for additional treatment; however, the nature and extent of that person’s injuries are unclear. It is also unknown if any other individuals were hurt in the incident.
Per officer reports, the investigation into the events leading up to the accident is still underway. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident, or any other persons with additional information, is urged to get in touch with the NPD as soon as possible.
Our thoughts are with the individuals who were hurt, and we are hoping for their full recovery.
Injury Car Accidents in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Motor vehicle accidents claim the lives of nearly one thousand individuals each year in Virginia, according to state statistics. A total of 65,000 more victims suffer life-threatening injuries as a consequence of these collisions.
People who have been injured in a car accident may suffer long-term health problems or mental distress. Worse still, the victims who sustain more serious injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries (TBI), major fractures or broken bones, spinal cord injuries, or other catastrophic wounds are more likely to need ongoing care.
Moreover, the majority of motor vehicle collisions may be attributed to one of three factors: speeding, distracted driving, or DUI. In spite of your best efforts to keep yourself and others safe, there is no assurance that other motorists will follow traffic laws or behave in an appropriate manner while behind the wheel.
