Chesapeake, VA (June 19, 2021) – At least one victim sustained injuries after a car accident occurred on Saturday evening, June 19, on Interstate 64 in the Chesapeake area.
According to officers with the Chesapeake Police Department, the accident happened around 6:00 p.m. on I-64 at the High Rise Bridge. At that time, two vehicles traveling eastbound on the highway collided, resulting in the closure of the entire highway so that authorities could respond.
EMS units were dispatched to the scene and appeared to transport at least one victim to an area medical center for further treatment. The total number of victims who sustained injuries is unclear, however. Firefighters were also photographed in the area, helping police to clear the scene and aid victims.
Officers say that speed and intoxication do not appear to have caused the collision, but they’re still piecing together the events leading up to the wreck.
The accident remains under investigation at this time, and further details about those involved have not been released.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
Car Accident Injuries in Chesapeake, Virginia
Hundreds of individuals are seriously injured or killed in traffic-related accidents around the Commonwealth of Virginia. Victims and their families pay a high price after suffering at the hands of a careless or reckless driver, from pedestrian accidents to automobile crashes and beyond. Victims may be rushed to area medical centers for emergency medical treatment, major surgeries, and painful procedures, spending days or even weeks and months in recovery. Furthermore, those affected often require therapy for emotional trauma, which can be time-consuming and costly. Sadly, not every accident victim is able to recover, leaving grieving families to deal with financial difficulties while attempting to recover from their devastating loss.
Even worse, these incidents are usually preventable, making the devastating repercussions that families are forced to face all the more agonizing. Data show that the majority of collisions, more than 80%, are caused by drivers who are distracted, impaired, or engaging in reckless behaviors while operating their vehicles. However, victims and their families may have legal recourse after suffering in a crash that’s occurred through no fault of their own and should reach out to an accident attorney in Virginia as soon as possible. Victims and their families may be entitled to compensation to help cover their losses and the financial burdens they face moving forward.
