Chesapeake, VA (September 24, 2021) – Virginia State Police officers are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that closed Interstate 664 southbound at Military Highway to shut down on Friday afternoon, September 24.
Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation said the major accident occurred during rush hour, around 5:30 p.m., near mile marker 19.6 and exit 14 to Military Highway. A chain reaction to slowing and stopped vehicles resulted in the incident, per officers on the scene.
Chesapeake Fire & Rescue crews provided emergency medical assessment and treatment. Paramedics transported at least one victim to a local medical center via ambulance. EMS reportedly treated that victim for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers have not released further details about the events leading up to the wreck or about the victims involved. Their investigation is ongoing at this time.
Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Chesapeake
Annually, nearly 1,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sadly, another 65,000 people suffer serious injuries in these collisions. Victims also continue to suffer from long-term physical problems or emotional trauma long after their wreck. This is especially true if they sustain TBIs, fractures, spinal cord injuries, and other catastrophic injuries.
As a result of these serious accidents, victims face drastic limitations going forward. Although serious motor vehicle accidents can happen for a variety of reasons, the majority of accidents fall under one of three causes.
Even if you strive to protect yourself and others while on the road, you cannot guarantee that others will act responsibly. Unfortunately, tens of thousands of people are left with debilitating injuries after these accidents.
