Chesapeake, VA (July 22, 2021) – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash that occurred in Chesapeake on Thursday morning, July 22.
Authorities say that the crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. in the eastbound lane of Interstate 64 approaching exit 299. All eastbound lanes of I-64 were closed near Bowers Hill for several hours while police worked to clear the scene and conduct their investigation.
Virginia State Police officers are leading the investigation and revealed that the driver of a 1999 Honda motorcycle, identified as 21-year-old Sulaiman Aziz Little, died as a result of the accident. Initial reports state that Little attempted to change lanes when he struck possible debris in the road. The impact caused him to eject from his motorcycle and into the right lane of travel. He was then struck by two vehicles.
Despite life-saving measures performed by EMS, Little was pronounced dead before he could be transported to an area medical center. It’s unclear if any other victims sustained injuries in the incident, though officers say their investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Sulaiman Aziz Little. Our thoughts are with any other injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Chesapeake, VA
At least 2,000 motorcyclists are injured in accidents throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia annually. Although we have seen a reduction in total collisions at nearly 10% between 2016 and 2017, they continue to take place at an alarming rate. These accidents are often preventable, yet so many innocent victims suffer as a result of the negligence of other drivers. Many accidents are caused by negligent drivers, those who speed, drivers who are intoxicated, and those who are engaging in reckless driving behaviors.
People who are injured in accidents often require extensive medical treatment and have to spend several months or even years recovering and going to therapy. Although many treatment options exist to help victims in the aftermath of their accidents, they come at a high price and with no guarantee of a full recovery. In fact, thousands of people are left permanently disabled as a result of injuries they sustain in crashes.
