Chesapeake, VA (November 22, 2021) – A three-vehicle accident occurred on South Military Highway in Chesapeake Monday afternoon, November 22, taking down a power pole and closing portions of the roadway.
Police say the highway was closed in both directions at Galberry Road around 4:20 p.m. At that time, a driver headed eastbound on the highway swerved to avoid another car pulling out from Galberry Road.
The swerving car then hit a tractor-trailer driving westbound. The collision caused the tractor-trailer to run off the road and knock down a power pole. The driver pulling out from Galberry left the scene before officers arrived.
One driver was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries that are not life-threatening. It’s unclear if any other victims suffered injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, and officers say that citations or charges may be pending.
Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Virginia
Annually, nearly 1,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sadly, another 65,000 people suffer serious injuries in these collisions. Victims also continue to suffer from long-term physical problems or emotional trauma long after their wreck. This is especially true if they sustain TBIs, fractures, spinal cord injuries, and other catastrophic injuries.
As a result of these serious accidents, victims face drastic limitations going forward. Although serious motor vehicle accidents can happen for a variety of reasons, the majority of accidents fall under one of three causes.
Even if you strive to protect yourself and others while on the road, you cannot guarantee that others will act responsibly. Unfortunately, tens of thousands of people are left with debilitating injuries after these accidents. Wrecks that are caused by the negligence of another driver can leave victims in devastating circumstances.
Oftentimes, these victims require medical treatment and ongoing therapy lasting for months or years. As a result, victims may pay tens of thousands of dollars out of their own pockets.
Thankfully, if you sustain injuries in an accident that’s occurred through no fault of your own, you may have legal recourse. You and your family can reach out to a car accident attorney in Chesapeake. Contacting an attorney in the aftermath of your accident is essential. Plus, you may find that you are entitled to compensation, which can help you cover your financial burdens.
