Hampton, VA (August 31, 2021) – An accident occurred in James City County on Saturday afternoon, August 28, leaving one woman dead and her husband critically injured.
The Virginia State Police (VSP) said the incident happened on Rochambeau Drive, east of Patriot Lane, shortly before 2:00 p.m. The area is close to the Williamsburg RV & Camping Resort, located just outside of Hampton.
An initial investigation indicated the driver of a 2017 Honda Accord made a U-turn in the roadway and collided with the passenger side of a 2013 Jeep Wrangler.
The driver of the Accord, identified as Dane Clingan, was traveling with his wife, 59-year-old Jacqueline Clingan when the wreck happened. Jacqueline Clingan suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Paramedics transported Dane Clingan to an area medical center with serious, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler sustained only minor injuries. Updates on their current conditions were not provided.
According to the VSP, alcohol or speed did not factor into the incident. They also said no charges or citations are pending at this time.
