Newport News, VA (August 27, 2021) – Authorities reported a large blaze at a pool business that occurred on Friday morning, August 27, leading to evacuations of nearby businesses and homes.
Firefighters said that the fire broke out around 11:00 a.m. at Best Pools in the 1600 block of George Washington Memorial Highway. Photos from the York County Department of Fire & Life Safety showed heavy flames and smoke coming from the building.
York fire officials said that they were still addressing hot spots and monitoring local air conditions nearly three hours later, around 2:00 p.m. George Washington Memorial Highway was also closed from Coventry Boulevard to Production Drive while crews worked to clear the scene.
Paramedics did not report any serious injuries, though they evaluated and treated several victims at the scene. It appears that EMS transported at least one person to an area medical center.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined. Authorities are still investigating at this time and have not provided further details.
Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this incident. We hope for their full recovery.
Fire Accidents & Burn Injuries in Virginia
Serious fires impact tens of thousands of Americans yearly. From house fires to business fires or even small blazes on another person’s property, these incidents cause overwhelmingly painful injuries and major property damage. Sadly, negligence contributes to a large majority of fires. Whether it’s defective appliances and faulty electrical work or even malicious actions like arson, fires leave victims paying the price.
Furthermore, burn victims often require immediate medical attention. In addition to suffering severe burns, victims may sustain internal organ damages as a result of smoke inhalation or permanent physical scarring. These individuals could take months or years to recover from these incidents, if they recover at all.
Outside of injuries, these fires devastate homes and businesses. Oftentimes, property owners are left without a roof over their heads. Those affected by these incidents may be forced to negotiate with insurance companies for months at a time.
It’s clear that the impacts of fires and injuries are far-reaching. However, victims may pursue legal action to obtain compensation. This compensation can help alleviate the impact of lost wages, medical treatment, and other financial burdens.
Thankfully, working with a burn injury attorney in Newport News can help protect your legal rights. A skilled lawyer will personalize their advice to match your needs. Additionally, an experienced Virginia legal team will work with you to navigate the complicated court system.
