Norfolk, VA (February 22, 2022) – One driver sustained serious injuries after they were hit by an SUV that was involved in a police pursuit in Norfolk on Monday afternoon, February 22.
A spokesperson with the Chesapeake Police Department says the pursuit started near Bainbridge Boulevard and Chesapeake Drive around 5:00 p.m. Officers spotted a silver Ford Explorer SUV with an expired registration and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled.
Police then initiated a pursuit that led into Norfolk, where the driver of the suspect SUV struck a Hyundai on Tidewater Drive. The driver of that vehicle wasn’t injured.
The pursuit ended shortly thereafter, around 5:20 p.m. when the SUV driver caused a crash at the intersection of Tidewater Drive and East Princess Anne Road. The suspect driver crashed into an occupied Dodge sedan, seriously injuring the driver of the Dodge. Medics rushed that victim to an area medical center, but their current condition is unknown.
All four people from the suspect vehicle, two men and two women were transported to local hospitals, though their injuries are not considered serious. The driver was apprehended after receiving treatment for their injuries at the hospital.
Police shared a copy of their vehicle pursuit policy but did not release additional details at this time. Their investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Virginia
Recent data released by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles shows that more than 800 deaths occurred on Virginia’s roadways in 2020 alone. Moreover, nearly 150 people suffered injuries daily in the Commonwealth as a result of these traffic crashes.
When these serious accidents occur, victims often face drastic limitations going forward. Although serious motor vehicle accidents can happen for a variety of reasons, the majority of accidents fall under one of three causes. These causes include but are not limited to speeding, drunk driving, and violating various traffic laws.
Even if you strive to protect yourself and others while on the road, you cannot guarantee that others will act responsibly. Unfortunately, tens of thousands of people are left with debilitating injuries after these accidents. Wrecks that are caused by the negligence of another driver can leave victims in devastating circumstances.
Oftentimes, these victims require medical treatment and ongoing therapy lasting for months or years. As a result, victims may pay tens of thousands of dollars out of their own pockets.
Thankfully, if you sustain injuries in an accident that’s occurred through no fault of your own, you may have legal recourse. You and your family can reach out to a car accident attorney in Norfolk. Contacting an attorney in the aftermath of your accident is essential. Plus, you may find that you are entitled to compensation, which can help you cover your financial burdens.
