Written by: Virginia Beach Injury Law

Norfolk, VA (May 26, 2022) – A collision involving a large number of drivers was reported to the authorities in the Hampton Roads region on the evening of Thursday, May 26. Responders from Norfolk Fire & Rescue and the Norfolk Police Department were among those who went to the scene of the accident.

At around 8:00 p.m., in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, an accident occurred, as reported by emergency personnel who were at the site. The Norfolk Police Department has reported that all lanes were backed up for an extended amount of time after the accident, despite the fact that the details of what caused the incident remain unknown.

At least one victim was transported by emergency medical personnel to a nearby medical facility for further treatment; however, the type and degree of that victim’s injuries remain unknown at this time.

According to the reports filed by the officers, the investigation into the circumstances that led up to the accident is still ongoing. The NPD requests that anybody who may have observed the accident or anyone else who may have information relevant to the investigation get in contact with them as soon as possible.

Our thoughts are with those who were harmed, and we are keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy and complete recovery on their part.

Motor Vehicle Accidents in the Commonwealth of Virginia

According to the figures compiled by Virginia Commonwealth researchers, approximately one thousand people every year lose their lives as a result of being involved in motor vehicle accidents. As a direct result of these incidents, an additional 65,000 people have had injuries that are considered to be life-threatening.

People who have been hurt in a vehicle accident may have ongoing emotional or physical anguish, depending on the severity of their injuries. Worse still, victims who experience more severe injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries (TBI), significant fractures or broken bones, spinal cord injuries, or other catastrophic wounds, are more likely to need continuous medical treatment.

In addition, the majority of accidents involving motor vehicles are caused by one of these three behaviors: speeding, distracted driving, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Even if you make every attempt to keep yourself and others safe while driving, there is no guarantee that other drivers will obey traffic regulations or behave in a proper way while they are behind the wheel.
