Norfolk, VA (May 7, 2022) – Norfolk Police Department officers responded to a two-vehicle crash causing injuries in Norfolk on Saturday afternoon, May 7.
There is limited information on the events leading up to the wreck but authorities say that, around 2:00 p.m., they responded to the corner of northbound Military Highway at Springmeadow Boulevard after receiving reports of a collision involving an SUV and a minivan. Preliminary details indicate that one of the drivers sideswiped the other as they were traveling through the intersection.
Police also confirmed that two people were injured in the crash, and paramedics evaluated both at the scene. It’s unclear if any victims were transported to a local hospital, however.
NPD officers said their investigation is ongoing at this time, and they have not provided any other information.

Serious Car Accidents in Virginia
More than a thousand victims are said to have died in motor vehicle accidents in Virginia in the last year alone, according to authorities. Unfortunately, another 60,000 people are seriously injured as a result of these crashes.
Although serious car accidents can occur for a number of reasons, the majority of them are caused by one of three factors. The top causes of these incidents include but are not limited to:
- Speeding or reckless driving, two primary causes of approximately half of all fatal accidents in Virginia.
- Driving under the influence, which accounts for about 30% of deadly crashes statewide.
- Violating other traffic laws, including failure to yield or texting while behind the wheel.
Unfortunately, thousands of individuals are left to cope with tragic consequences as a result of these collisions. Accidents caused by the irresponsibility of another motorist put victims in extremely difficult situations. For instance, these victims frequently require costly medical care and continuing rehabilitation that might last months or years, causing them to pay tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket.
And long after an accident, victims may experience ongoing health difficulties or persistent emotional trauma. This is especially true if they have had a traumatic brain injury, broken bones, a spinal cord injury, or other catastrophic injuries.
