Norfolk, VA (September 23, 2020) – An accident reported in the Norfolk area on Wednesday claimed one construction worker’s life on Wednesday morning. Just before 8:30 a.m., on September 23, the Norfolk Police Department responded to the scene of a workplace accident on Colley Avenue.

Preliminary investigations show that a 25-year-old construction worker was located at the worksite for the EVMS Waitzer Hall, located at 315 Colley Avenue, unresponsive. The victim was involved in a fall incident that caused him severe harm.

Crews arrived at the site and pronounced the victim deceased. The scene was immediately secured so the police could investigate to determine what lead to the construction worker’s death. At this time, investigations are ongoing.

Our team would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim who lost their lives in this incident. Our thoughts are with them at this time.

Fatal Workplace Accidents in Virginia

Each year, thousands of workers across the United States lose their lives while on the job. The construction industry, in particular, presents unique and unpredictable challenges to workers. While working on large structures over unstable grounds, there is a heightened chance of being involved in an accident. In many cases, construction site accidents are caused by slips, trips, falls, defective equipment, improper training, inadequate safety equipment, and due to the negligent and reckless actions of other parties at the scene. Regrettably, many families have a difficult time moving forward after losing a loved one unexpectedly.

Depending on the circumstances surrounding the accident, families may have legal venues that they are able to take to obtain compensation to help alleviate some of the financial burdens they face related to funerals, lost wages, and other costs they face moving forward. Although no amount of money can even alleviate the pain and suffering families are forced to endure, having the financial resources necessary to cover the financial burdens families face after an unexpected loss can help to reduce some of the stress you and your family are forced to endure. Working with a knowledgeable wrongful death attorney in the Virginia Beach area will ensure families are able to protect their legal rights and best interests.
