Suffolk, VA (June 30, 2021) – Officers with the Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire & Rescue units were on the scene of a fatal crash involving a Norfolk Southern train and a pedestrian that happened late Wednesday evening, June 30.
According to reports from authorities, the crash happened around midnight in the area of North 10th Street, which is located in the Lloyd Place neighborhood. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that an adult man crossing the tracks was struck by a train passing through. The train stopped and no other serious injuries were reported. EMS units were also on the scene and attempted life-saving measures on the man, though he was pronounced deceased before he could be transported to an area medical center.
The train crash was blocking the area of North Capital Street and Railroad Avenue for several hours while police investigated.
Police have not released the victim’s age and identity. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
