Written by: Virginia Beach Injury Law

Virginia Beach, VA (June 8, 2022) – On the evening of June 8, a multi-vehicle collision at mile marker 287.5 in Virginia Beach shut down a portion of eastbound Interstate 64.

The Virginia State Police, together with officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department, was sent to the scene at about 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday. According to authorities, a collision involving two automobiles happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 at the exit for Indian River Road.

Per preliminary reports, a passenger car collided with another vehicle in the right lane of traffic. VSP officials believe a third vehicle was involved, however, it is unknown how many people were injured. Those who were hurt were either treated on the scene or sent to a local hospital for further care.

VSP has issued a statement stating that their inquiry is still underway.

Our thoughts are with all who have been hurt as a result of this accident. We are optimistic that they will recover fully.

Multiple-Driver Accidents in Virginia Beach

Around one thousand people were killed in motor vehicle accidents in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the preceding year, while another 65,500 or more people have been critically wounded as a consequence of these accidents. Worse, victims usually suffer from the physical and emotional aftereffects of their trauma for weeks or even months after an initial auto accident occurs.

Regrettably, the majority of Virginia vehicle accidents are caused by one of the following forms of negligent driving:

  • Excessive speed is a contributing factor in more than half of all fatal incidents in Virginia.
  • Drunk or drugged drivers are responsible for more than one-third of all fatal automobile accidents in the Commonwealth.
  • Distracted driving, such as sending or reading texts while driving, is another major cause of serious vehicle wrecks.

While you should take every precaution to keep yourself and others safe while driving, you cannot always depend on other drivers to do the same. Regardless of the underlying reasons for these accidents, tens of thousands of people have been left with injuries that prevent them from returning to work or living their normal lives.

Most of the time, these patients need ongoing medical care as well as rehabilitation that might take months or even years. As a result, victims may be compelled to pay tens of thousands of dollars out of their own pockets.

As a consequence, you may be eligible for compensation if you are injured in an automobile accident that was not your fault. You and your family should call an experienced car accident attorney in Norfolk as soon as possible.
