Virginia Beach, VA (May 28, 2022) – On the afternoon of Saturday, May 28, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department were called to the site of an automobile collision that had occurred on Interstate 264 near the Witchduck Road exit.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., officers from the VBPD and troopers from the Virginia State Police responded to the westbound lanes of Interstate 264 near mile marker 14.9. This location is immediately west of Exit 16 to Witchduck Road. Upon arrival, the police found that there had been a collision in the right lanes involving two passenger cars.
In addition, medics from Virginia Beach arrived on the site and transferred all of the wounded individuals to the Virginia Beach General Hospital in an ambulance so that they could get further care. At this moment, neither the overall number of injuries nor the nature of their injuries can be determined with any degree of certainty.
The authorities are currently investigating the chain of events that led up to the incident, and they have not offered any other information at this time. The inquiry is still ongoing at this time.
Our thoughts are with the individuals who were hurt as a result of this crash. We are hoping for a full recovery for them.
Injuries Reported in Virginia Beach Car Wrecks
According to statistics recently made public by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, the number of fatalities that happened on Virginia’s highways in 2021 increased by around 15% when compared to those that occurred in 2020. In addition to these deaths, figures from the previous year revealed that roughly 160 people are injured every day as a result of traffic accidents in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Even if accident rates have gone down in various parts of the country and in the Commonwealth of Virginia, it is abundantly evident that situations like these are still much too prevalent. And despite the fact that the majority of car accidents may be avoided and that driver recklessness is often at fault, the victims who suffer injuries or pass away as a result of being involved in an auto accident pay a high price.
Those who are lucky enough to escape these catastrophic collisions with their lives may have to deal with long-term medical issues, including whiplash and muscular strains, as well as mental anguish for a period of months or even years. The path to recovery is very challenging for those who have been injured in automobile accidents because of the severity of their injuries, which may range from catastrophic scarring or loss of function to spine fractures and traumatic brain injuries.
In the end, tens of thousands of individuals are left with injuries that render them unable to function normally. To add insult to injury, victims may be required to pay tens of thousands of dollars out of their own wallets while also engaging in difficult talks with insurance companies or dealing with uninsured drivers. Tragically, when victims pass away as a result of their injuries, their bereaved families are left to pick up the pieces, which includes paying out thousands of dollars to cover lost income, remaining hospital bills, and funeral expenses.
