Virginia Beach, VA (September 7, 2021) – A 72-year-old man died following a two-vehicle accident involving an EMS van in Northampton County on Tuesday morning, September 7.

Per a statement from Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police, the driver of an EMS Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound on Route 13. The EMS driver was en route to a separate incident.

As the paramedic approached the intersection at Rogers Drive, a 1999 Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on Rogers came into their path.

The driver of the Corolla, later identified as 72-year-old Wayne Gerringer, was hit and died on impact. He was the sole occupant of the Corolla.

The driver of the EMS vehicle was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the wreck. VSP officers have not released further details at this time.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Wayne Gerringer. Our thoughts are with the injured victim in hopes of a full recovery.

Car Accident Fatalities in Virginia Beach

Each year, hundreds of people are killed in traffic-related incidents throughout the commonwealth of Virginia. Although most of these accidents are preventable, families must still endure overwhelming consequences.

Hundreds of victims are rushed to area hospitals after their accidents. Oftentimes, they have to undergo emergency medical treatment and spend days or even weeks in recovery. Furthermore, victims often require time-consuming, costly therapy for their injuries. Unfortunately, not every accident victim is able to recover.

In many cases, the negligent or reckless actions of others are the cause of the accidents. Statistics show that more than 80% of accidents are caused by drivers who are distracted. Whether a driver is texting, impaired, or engaging in other reckless behaviors, they contribute to the majority of deadly crashes.

When people lose their lives as a result of these incidents, their families should reach out to an accident attorney in Virginia Beach. Families may find they’re entitled to compensation to alleviate their financial burdens.
